Ignition of the project
The very essence of a human being resides in their social nature because, in order to survive, they need to be part of a group. Thus, they engage in social interactions and establish from a young age an intimate circle of people with whom they feel comfortable and secure. Then, gradually, this circle widens through chance encounters that mark their journey.
As they gain experiences and engage in exchanges, individuals learn to master their image through what I call "masks." These masks allow them to play the different roles that punctuate their lives: the professional at work, the parent with their children, and so on. These various facets enable them to identify themselves, communicate, and understand others around them.
But what happens when the masks fall, when the face is revealed without artifice? In these moments of neutrality, are we capable of picking up non-verbal cues about their state, character, and life? Do we truly observe the other as they are, or do we project our own perceptions onto their person? What story lies behind that face? Do we genuinely claim to know them before we have truly met them?
Kire Ivanov, the artist behind the exhibition called "ME," happening at the Hotel Royal Savoy in Lausanne from December 1, 2023, is deeply exploring the intricate relationship between people. His art aims to make people think about the connections between themselves and others by blending voice and personal items.
In this exhibition, Ivanov showcases a series of simple yet captivating portraits, where everyone wears a Nobis jacket. He stumbled upon this idea during a lucky photoshoot with the brand and was amazed by the presence and uniqueness these jackets brought to the portraits. The dark colors of the jackets add elegance to the portraits while still letting each person's personality shine through.
This final image, with the Nobis jackets at its core, connects with the sacred symbols that have influenced Ivanov's art journey. It also hints at the graphic styles found in popular manga culture, mixing contemporary art with elements from today's culture. The "ME" exhibition promises to be an immersive experience that encourages self-reflection and celebrates the diversity of individuals through powerful images.
